Introduction: Osteoporosis is an increasingly widespread disease, and so is diabetes mellitus. It is now accepted that osteoporotic fractures are a serious co-morbidity and complication of diabetes. The risk of fracture is elevated in patients with type 1 diabetes (T1DM) in whom bone mineral density (BMD) is reduced as well as in type 2 diabetes (T2DM) patients with normal bone mineral density. Objective: The effect of 24-hour starvation on bone metabolism in intact male Wistar rats was monitored. Material and methods: The rats were divided into 2 groups of 10 rats and fed for 12 weeks with a standard laboratory diet (ST1) ad libitum: The first group (ST1-S) was fed ST1 until sacrifice. In the 2nd group (ST1-H), ST1 was disconti nued 24 hours before sacrifice. The review aimed to present recent findings from clinical studies on micro-RNAs (miRNAs) to better characterize the pathoetiology of heart failure, osteoporosis and sarcopenia, and to possibly even find miRNA targets which would increase the level and accuracy of prediction of the progression and/or treatment of both diseases.

Is the diagnosis of Paget disease simple? The authors present four case reports to address the question. The case reports demonstrate the diversity of clinical and radiographic manifestations of the disease and the frequent need for confirma tion by biopsy as part of differential diagnosis, as seen in two of the patients.

This brief case report presents two pediatric patients from the Zlín Region in whom a spasm attack was the first symp tom and reason for examination. However, the assumed diagnosis of epilepsy proved to be wrong after additional tests were performed. In a girl, laboratory and genetic tests confirmed pseudohypoparathyroidism type 1b (PHP 1b). A boy met the diagnostic criteria for Albright's hereditary osteodystrophy (PHP 1a). This rare disease, with an estimated pre valence of 7 cases per 1 million population, was encountered in our center over a short period of time.
