Clin Osteol 2017; 22(2): 44-50
Objective: This study was aimed at establishing the influence of different by composition and manufacturer biocompo site calcium phosphate materials on the biomechanical dynamics of healing of experimental defect of the compact bone tissue. Materials and Methods: The experiment was carried out on 48 white Wistar rats. In the middle third of the diaphysis of the femur there was reproduced the perforated defect with a diameter of 2.5 mm to medullar channel, which in the animals of the first group was filled with biocomposite calcium phosphate material "Collapan" (hydroxyapatite/collagen/antibiotic), and in the animals of the second group with "Easy-graft™CRYSTAL"...

The goal of osteoporosis treatment, that is, reducing the risk of fractures, cannot be adequately monitored in clinical practice. At an individual level, surrogate markers of treatment effectiveness must be used, that are related to the risk of frac tures - bone mineral density (BMD) and bone turnover markers (BTMs). All antiosteoporotic drugs reduce the risk of fractures but do not eliminate it completely. In most antiresorptive agents, increased BMD is associated with a reduced risk of fracture. The strength of this association, however, depends on the antiresorptive potency of a particular agent, ty pe of densitometry region of interest and type...

Glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis is the most frequent secondary and iatrogenic cause of bone loss, often with a very rapid and disabling course and permanent consequences. Given the fact that glucocorticoids are extensively prescribed by various specialists (e.g. neurologists, rheumatologists, dermatologists, allergologists, nephrologists, endocrinologists, gastroenterologists and oncologists), the presented case reports should teach and warn. Prior to initiation of corticoste roid therapy, a possibility ofthis complication must be considered, bone densitometry performed, preventive calcium and vitamin D supplementation administered and further...
