Primary hyperparathyroidism in parathyroid adenoma with synchronous papillary thyroid carcinomaReview articles
Reported is a case of a 53-year-old woman with long-lasting back pain and severe hypercalcemia. Based on laboratory findings and ima ging methods, the condition was diagnosed as primary hyperparathyroidism with suspected parathyroid adenoma at the lower pole of the right thyroid lobe. Due to an incidental finding of a cold nodule in the right thyroid lobe, apart from excision of the adenoma, right thyroid lobectomy was performed in the patient. The definitive histological finding confirmed parathyroid adenoma and, sur prisingly, revealed papillary thyroid carcinoma. Therefore, total thyroidectomy was carried out, followed by radioiodine therapy. After the therapy, hypocalcemia persists with suspected postoperative hypoparathyroidism. Clinically, the patient has no significant com plaints.
