Prevention of osteoporosis and fracturesOriginal contributions
Timely preventive measures can significantly decrease the risk of fractures. Critical for the development of a biomechanically compe tent skeleton and maintaining bone mass are childhood, perimenopause and early postmenopause. Preventive measures are most im portant in the elderly who are at the highest risk of fractures. Prevention of osteoporosis and fractures includes maintained physical activity, dietary measures including adequate calcium and vitamin D intake and, at an older age, prevention of falls.
