Hip protectors - new developmentsInformations

Hip fractures are increasing epidemically and become great health-care and economic problem of developed countries. Hip-protectors (hip-savers, hip-pads) are widely used to prevent osteoporotic hip-fractures in risk population. They consist of pants with special padding in big trochanter area. These pants underwear under common clothes. They are produced in lot of modifications and sizes. Their effectiveness was proved in laboratory tests (reduction of impact energy under the treshold of fracture 3kN) and many clinical trials (approx. one-half reduction of hip fractures). Low accep­ tance and compliance were however recorded in majority of trials. Hip-protectors should take place in all strategies aiming for reduction of devastating hip fractures.
