Osteoporotic patients' from the standpoint of physiotherapyReview articles

Z. Krhutová, P. Novosad

Medical rehabilitation is an essential part of comprehensive treatment of osteoporosis. It plays an important role in both primary pre vention, i.e. in potential detection of individuals at risk and their motivation for adequate physical activities, and secondary preventi on, where special kinesiotherapeutic procedures and physical exercise enable to maintain motor and sensory-motor functions. The most frequent problems of osteoporotic patients include pain, reduced mobility and efficiency, deterioration of sensory-motor functions, impaired postural control with instability, disorders of coordination and motor manifestations. In physiotherapy, the object of diagnostic and therapeutic interest is not osteoporosis itself as a disability of the skeleton but identification of postural and loco motor disorders and their correction. The goal of this paper is to report frequent problems of osteoporotic patients and our therapeutic experience in medical rehabilitati on in the Osteological Centre Zlín where these patients are provided with comprehensive therapeutic intervention.
